Graduate Programs

Program Description and Objectives

The Congregation of Dominican Sisters of St. Catherine of Siena, in cooperation with Siena College, Quezon City, has for its goals the continued development of individuals through excellence in the academe and through development in the Christian faith. In this light, an academic program for the Bachelor in Secondary Education major in Religious Education was earlier established.

Responding to the needs of the times and of the Church, Siena College now offers a Graduate School in Religious Studies with the following objectives:

1. To deepen knowledge of Catholic faith through a comprehensive and competent study of the faith.

2. To integrate and internalize the Catholic faith in one's life and work.

3. To upgrade/update the professional formation of catechists and missionaries in their field of specialization.

4. To assist religious educators to adopt methods or strategies of teaching that respond to the needs of the Catholic Church and of our country.

Admission Requirements

• Submit a letter of intent.
• A college degree with at least 12 units of college level theology with grades no lower than 1.75 or its equivalent.
• A grade no lower than 2.5 or its equivalent in other subjects.
• Should pass the written exams and oral interview.
• Letter of recommendation from school head/guidance counselor/parish priest/employer.
• Transcript of records from the last school attended.

Special Programs

CARE GIVER PROGRAM

The Home Care giving Course is designed to train future caregivers to provide personal care and other related services in the home. It is a 6-month course consisting of 42 units leading to a Certificate in Home Care giving.

The course aims to train the future caregiver to become skilled and competent provider of personal and other related care in the home, specially in the taking care of an infant, an elderly person, a disabled person, a chronically-ill person, and a client with maladaptive behavior. It will imbibe in the student work values and ethics which are Gospel-centered and professional and provide training in home management, language & communication and personality development.

Admission Requirements

• Submission of high school diploma, original transcript of records, birth certificate, and three ID pictures.

• Payment of application and testing fee.

• Passing the entrance examination and interview.

FREE NIGHT HIGH SCHOOL

Is a five-year secondary course program open to qualified students, ages 12—14 who are graduates of any public or private elementary school, and whose parents are financially incapable of sending them to school.

Applicants have to pass the entrance tests and the interviews and submit the required documents. Both parents and students have to attend the Orientation Program before the opening of classes.

CLASSES are from Monday to Friday, 3.00 p.m. to 9.00 p.m. Saturdays are for library research, laboratory work and other activities.

SPECIAL EDUCATION PROGRAM

The school is aware of the tremendous demands for employed parent to look for places and schools where they can leave their children safe and at the same time be provided with the correct head start for their formal schooling. Thus, Siena College, QC has decided to create a special learning environment for preschoolers and the less able children in terms of intelligence and accomplishment. Being sensitive to the needs of these young children would mean opportunity for them to acquire new folds of love, experiences, hope and life.
The ultimate goals of special education are to mitigate the adverse effects of exceptional conditions, to train handicapped children to the best of their abilities and eventually to mainstream those children capable to taking their full role in the society.

Early Intervention Program and Education Courses are offered to :

a. Mentally Handicapped. They are slow in learning how to read, how to write, how to count or how to express themselves.
b. Children with mild autism. Children who seem unable to understand simple verbal and nonverbal communication, social interaction, and leisure or play activities. This makes communication with others difficult. Perplexed sensory inputs cause withdrawal in varying degrees from others and the world around them.
